Dino Melaye Joins Audu, 19 Others In Kogi Guber Race

Ahead of the governorship election holding later this year in Kogi State, the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye, may have perfected plans to join the race to become the next governor of the state, after the incumbent, Captain Idris Wada.

Melaye of All Progressives Congress (APC), who is yet to announce his ambition publicly, according to findings, would be joining about 20 other contenders, including the state APC leader and former governor, Prince Abubakar Audu.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to fix a date for the exercise. The newly inaugurated senator is reputed to be a staunch supporter of Prince Audu.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that Melaye, who is from Okun speaking area of the state, was said to have begun consultations with stakeholders within his domain on the need for the Yorubas in Kogi to produce the next governor.

He was said to have, during the Ogidimela new yam festival, which took place at the weekend in Ogidi-Ijumu, informed of Yorubas’ preparedness to take over power in the state.

Reacting in a telephone chat, Senator Melaye simply told the Nigerian Tribune “No comment.”


When prodded further, he said “I have not said anything. No comment.”
