Fuel Shortage May Worsen As NNPC Shuts Pipeline
Suspected vandals have severed a petroleum pipeline forcing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to shut down the facility.
It was learnt that the incident occurred at the Ije Ododo pipeline at about 11.15pm monday night.
Ije Ododo line is directly from Atlas Cove which supplies products to Mosimi.
Atlas Cove is a critical supply facility to Mosimi which supports strategic supply chain that distributes products to other parts of south west zone.
Officials have described Ije Ododo and Arepo as volatile and fraught to criminal attack and extremely dangerous to suspected vandals in recent times.
Ibrahim Farinloye, south west spokesperson of the National. Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said NNPC had shut down flows and locked the valves to stop further supply to feeding the fire.
Farinloye said fire service and other emergency services have arrive the scene to put up the fire which is raging at the time of this report.
He said the emergency service officials and fire fighter were able to secure access to the scene.
He also said the terrain is difficult to access due to swampy nature of the area.
However, efforts to get NNPC comment on the incident was difficult as the agency’s spokesperson,Ohi Alegbe could not respond to calls or mail to him.
