The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ruled out giving automatic tickets to Governors Seriake Dickson and Idris Wada of Bayelsa and Kogi states respectively, whose primary elections are due within the year.
The party last year gave automatic tickets to then President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President David Mark and its governors who were seeking re-election.
The two governors are seeking re-election on the platform of the party which will be held in the last quarter of this year in their respective states.
Speaking with our correspondent in an exclusive interview in Abuja, PDP national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, said the two governors would not be given automatic tickets to run but that they must participate in the party’s primary elections.
“We are not giving automatic tickets to Dickson or Wada. They must pass through the PDP primary election,” Metuh said.
Governor Wada had last Thursday visited the national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja where he held a closed-door meeting with the national leadership of the party.
The governor, who came with his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, his Chief of Staff and other officials of the state government, refused to address the press at the end of the meeting which lasted for about two hours but a source who attended the meeting said Wada was there to seek explanations on the cancellation of the ward congresses of the party in the state.
