Confusion in APC as Kogi January 27th Governorship Inauguration Gets Closer
Category: Kogi News
There is confusion in APC over challenges facing the upcoming inauguration of the Governor-Elect of Kogi State for January 27 as Hon. James Faleke insists to shun the event.
According to reports, Mr. Faleke insisted that there was no going back on his earlier decision that he was late Audu's running mate, and should become the governor-elect following the death of Audu.
Faleke said he would not pair with Alhaji Bello and has since
approached the court to declare him as the governorship candidate of
APC.
According to a report by Nigerian Pilot, officials of the presidency and the national leaders of the
APC have met a brick wall in their move to sway Faleke to change his
mind ahead of the inauguration. Several meetings are said to be taking
place at various levels to resolve the impasse to avoid likely
constitutional crisis if Alhaji Bello is sworn-in as governor without a
deputy.
It was gathered that the dilemma of APC leaders is compounded by the
thawed relationship between the presidency and the former Lagos State
governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is the political mentor of Faleke.
Supporters of Tinubu are aggrieved that President Muhammadu Buhari
shoved the acclaimed national leader aside after using him, his
resources and political structure to win the 2015 presidential election.
The
cold treatment meted out to the Tinubu’s camp and key members of the
defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, is hampering the resolution of
the Kogi crisis, as APC leaders and the presidency are at a loss over
how to approach Tinubu to intervene in the crisis and prevail on James
Faleke to team up with Yahaya Bello as his deputy.
Spokesman of
the Faleke group, Dr. Tom Ohikere, confirmed to the Nigerian Pilot
Sunday in a telephone interview last night that the position of Faleke
has not changed despite the moves by the APC leaders. According to him,
many things are happening behind the scene to resolve the issue but the
Kogi logjam is a very complex one because of the issues involved
