Governor Can't Pay Salary, Begins Building N4.6bn Bridge 7 Days To End Of Tenure
The governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada, on Tuesday, explained that his
administration could not pay its workers because banks have stopped granting
overdraft and other facilities he has been using in payment of salaries. He
blamed the situation on the dwindling allocation of the collective funds
coming to the state from the Federation Account. Governor Wada disclosed this
in Lokoja, thestate capital, during the official inauguration ceremony of the
construction of N4.6 billion fly-over bridges at the Ganaja junction in the
town. Wada leaves office as governor of the state in 7 days.
According to the governor, who stated that his government was still owing the banks some arrears of overdraft, resulting from servicing workers salary in the past, the banks stopped granting the facilities for the payment of workers salaries because of the recent political development in the state. He, however, said he would continue to make efforts for workers to be paid before he leaves office adding that Kogi State is bigger than an individual or anybody.
