This was how Segun Adisa started his Labe Orun TV show on Sunday 19 August 2012.
He narrated how a 10 months old boy died while his father struggled over a 5 acres land with is former school teacher.
It all started on Tuesday August 14 2012 in Ibadan when Sulaimon was arrested by the police for harassing his former school teacher Segun Amao.
Sulaimon reportedly went to confront Segun Amoa and his family for building over a land belonging to his deceased father.
The case had been on since 2011.
Amao claimed that the land was sold to him by Sulaimon’s family while Sulaimon insisted that his father did not sell the land since he did not give him any information regarding the sale of the land before his death.
While exchanging unpleasant words with the family of Amao, in anger Amao’s wife cursed Sulaimon, telling him that he would regret his action.
Police later arrested Sulaimon and detained for three days until Segun Adisa called on the police for his release following the death of his only child.
Speaking on the TV show, Sulaimon said the whole thing started 6 months ago when he discovered that his only inheritance, 5 acres of land left by his father was being constructed by Segun Amao.
According to him his father never informed him at any time that he was selling the land. He said though it was true that the elders invited on the matter claimed that his father sold the land and that the father’s younger brother, also dead was also a witness to the selling of the 5 acres land.
He said on August 14 2012 he was invited for dialogue by Amao but instead he was arrested by the police when he got there. However after his release by the police he got home and met his only child dead.
His wife and the mother of the dead boy said there was nothing wrong with the boy prior to his death.
She described the death as mysterious, claiming that he played the whole day and showed no symptoms of illness. But at night he suddenly began to make strange uncomfortable noise.
Sulaimon’s wife called the attention of their next door neighbor, an herbalist to help check the boy. She said the boy’s stomach later began to sell and one of his legs which were not initially infected became decayed.
On his own part the herbalist and their neighbor said Sulaimon was ill before he was arrested by the police. He said both him and some other neighbors tried to get his bail but failed as the police refused to grant the bail. He said they contacted MITV after the baby died to get help to release Sulaimon as it was wrong to bury the baby in his absence.
Talking about the death of the baby, he said it was mysterious.
According to him he was a specialist in treating various ailments and he did all he could to revive the baby. When he discovered he couldn’t help the dying child he tried to get help from his colleagues but the child died before help came.
The baby died on Thursday 16 August 2012 after an argument ensued between his father, Sulaimon and Amao’s wife who told Sulaimon that he would regret his action.
Segun Amao a teacher who works and lives in Ibadan bought 5 acres of land from Jimoh Ishola the younger brother of Sulaimon’s father.
According to him, he began developing the land since 2008 and moved into his completed building a year after.
Jimoh Ishola died in 2010 and Sulaimon came in 2011 to claim the land. He said he directed him to his relatives to find out how he got the piece of land.
He claimed Sulaimon was always coming to make trouble and that was why the police arrested him.
Disclaiming the allegation that his wife has a hand in the death of the 10 months old boy, he said neither him nor his wife knows Sulaimon’s family or his wife.
He said though Sulaimon attended the same school where he taught for several years but Sulaimon was never his student at any time.
Segun’s wife did not understand why Sulaimon was framing them up. She said he came to their house and threaten her and the children.
According to her the husband was not around and she locked herself and the children in for the fear of being harmed. She said she did not say anything to Sulaimon neither does she know anything about the whole matter.
Segun Adisa concluded the story by quoting the Yoruba adage, “An imbecile is any child who will live with his parents forever”
He said there’s no way you can be like your father, you have to struggle to make your own wealth.
