Patience Ozokwor (Mama G)

Popularly called Mama G. She was born in Ngwo in Enugu State of Nigeria but a native of Amaobo. She’s an Actress, Musician and Fashion designer.

Patience Ozokwor was born on March 25, 1958. She won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards. Ozokwor was among 100 Nigerians honoured by the government to celebrate the amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates in 1914.


Patience Ozokwor has acted in over 200 movies since 1998 when she did her first movie to date.

She attended Abimbola Gibson Memorial School in Lagos and later Methodist Girls in Yaba, Lagos before relocating back to Enugu due to the Nigerian Civil war just after she completed her Primary School education.

She re-wrote the Common Entrance on the instruction of her father in Ngwo and later attended secondary school in the same town.


Immediately after her secondary school, Patience married before attending a Teacher’s Training School in Afikpo, and then later proceeded to Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu where she studied Fine and Applied Arts, specializing in Graphics.

She taught for four years after leaving IMT, and then went into broadcasting. She was employed as an announcer with Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Enugu and she was retrenched when the Radio station was shot down, then she started trading businesses.

Mama G began acting when she was in Afikpo Teacher’s Training College, playing the role of Hamlet in William Shakespeare’s play. This gave her popularity in the college and many other places in the Eastern part of Nigeria where her group acted.

Patience Ozokwor did her first TV commercial for the then Anambra State government to promote a mass orientation program of the state government. She played the role of Pete Eneh’s wife.

After the promo, she received praises from the director, Chika Okpala (Chief Zebrudaya of New Masquerade). She was invited to play a lead role in Pete Eneh’s “Someone Cares” for a television station. And that was how she went into full time acting.

Patience did her first major movie in 1998, but it was “Authority” her second movie in 1999 that brought her into limelight.

Patience Ozonkwor married at the age of 19, but lost her husband some years ago following a terminal illness.



She is a mother of two sons, the first son is an engineer while the other is a footballer with the Rangers International, Enugu, and she has a daughter and another adopted child after the death of her husband.

Speaking in an interview about her children, she said, “Right now I am a widow and I have three biological children and I have adopted one because I needed more children especially when my husband passed on”
