Governor Amosun Wades Into Alake-Awujale Feud
Category: Nigerian National News
Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun held a closed-door meeting with the
Alake and Paramount of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and the Awujale
and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, at his Oke Mosan
office, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
The governor, who emerged from the there-hour meeting with the two
royal fathers, said they discussed so many things, arguing that there
was no feud between both monarchs.
Adetona was accompanied by the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa
Adekoya, while Gbadebo was accompanied by the Baaroyin of Egbaland,
Chief Lai Labode, who is also his media aide.
Amosun said they dwelt on issues that would promote peace in the state, adding that the feud was a creation of the media.
However, a source in the Governor’s Office, said the meeting was not
unconnected with the angry protest about the Alake’s grading of
traditional rulers in Yorubaland.
The governor said, “Nothing is happening. They (Alake and Awujale)
came here to see the possibility of making sure we have peace in the
state, among so many other things that we discussed.
“Don’t forget that this would be the first time I would have the
opportunity. I have shown my appreciation before – for the 40th
anniversary (of the state). So, it’s an opportunity for me to still show
that. We have come here to deliberate and, as always, it’s always a
pleasure for me to have our fathers around here.”
Amosun added, “Don’t just sit somewhere and write. There is nothing like rankings. We know ourselves.
“We are not going to fan any embers of disunity. What we are known
for in Ogun State is that all of us are one and we are still one.
Indeed, in the comity of the Yoruba, we know what we do, we know what we
stand for and we will continue to do just that.”
The Awujale and the Alake were also evasive.
Awujale said, “I want to say hello to you…there is no problem gentlemen, please. Thank you very much.”
He added, “I have come to see my governor for many things, including
the strike by workers, and I’m very sure they will go back to work very,
very soon by the grace of God.”
The Alake had ranked himself (fourth) above the Awujale (fifth) in his Yoruba oba rankings.
