Professor Hafiz Abubakar is the current Deputy Governor of Kano State, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Bayero University, Kano. And a professor of Food & Nutritional Biochemistry.

Hafiz was born on Thursday November 25, 1954 in Sabon Sara Quarters, Kano City, Gwale LGA, Kano, Nigeria.

He is married with children.

Before Hafiz Abubakar became the Deputy Governor of Kano State in 2015, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), at the Bayero University, Kano.

He was the Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Bayero University, Kano in 2014.

Before that appointment, Hafiz served as the Director, Center of Biochemistry from 2009 to 2013 and Head of Department of Biochemistry from 2008 to 2009.

Professor Hafiz held several other positions in the academic environment, including; Chairman, Northwest Chapter of Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST)

He was a Member, Board of Management of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), representing the Vice-chancellor, Bayero University, Kano from 2009 to 2013.
