The All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer in the just concluded governorship elections in Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, yesterday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, alleged that the Federal Government gave Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi N8 billion to prosecute the election.

Senator Ngige alleged that the money was given to the Anambra State governor under the guise of ecological fund by the Federal government, ostensibly to ensure that All Progressives Congress  was rigged out in the gubernatorial polls to pave the way for the electoral victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Willie Obiano.

He also alleged that “the N8biilion is apart from the N4billion state resources used by Obi for the election”.
Ngige who stated this during the Southeast APC leaders meeting, further alleged that the federal government in its desperate bid to ensure victory at all cost for the APGA candidate, also directed security agents to clampdown on APC members during the election.

According to Ngige, “Even the Army and the Police were obviously biased against the APC. They were arresting every vehicle with the APC logo. Some of our members were arrested in Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo states just to stop them, not even members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were spared”.
Also speaking during the meeting, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, former Governor of old Abia State one of the national leaders of APC, pointed out that the PDP is already in disarray because of the growing popularity of the opposition party, adding that this was evident in the Federal Government’s conduct during the Anambra gubernatorial polls.

He also congratulated APC members for their solidarity and support during the election.

“The Federal Government was afraid of the party and they ensured that APC came out third to stop us from going to the tribunal but we have disappointed them and we will continue until the election is cancelled”.

He added that; “In the history of Nigerian politics, there has never been an opposition party as strong as the APC. We have 16 governors already and many more are joining.

I can tell you that by 2015 the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will be the opposition party”.

Earlier in his address, Governor Rochas Okorocha, who was recently elected Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and host of the meeting, admonished members of the party in the zone to unite in the interest of moving the party ahead.

He said, “In APC, we believe in the masses; there is nothing like consensus candidate in APC. Let nobody claim that because he is close to the leaders, he is anointed”.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the APC said, “We have met and agreed that contact committee be set up under the chairmanship of Dr Ogbonnaya Onu with Governor Rochas Okorocha as a member to reach out to people in the zone.

“To recover the party’s mandate in Anambra State through all legal means and ensure that Senator Ngige becomes the Governor of Anambra State.

“The leadership of the party in the zone will hoist the party in all the five states.

“The leaders in the zone congratulated the G5 Governors who joined APC.”

The leaders also hailed the emergence of Okorocha as the first Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
