Wada Declared Winner of The Kogi Gubernatorial Election By Supreme Court
Category: Kogi News
The Supreme Court on Friday declared the Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris
Wada (retd.), as the validly nominated candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP)for the December 2011 governorship election in the
state.
Ealier, Jibrin Echocho, a member of the PDP challenged Wada’s emergence
as the party’s candidate, claiming that he had earlier been elected as
the candidate of the PDP in an earlier primary of the party.
However,
the justices of the apex court dismissed Echocho’s appeal while
delivering judgement in Abuja and declared that Wada was legally
nominated as the candidate of the PDP in the 2011 election.
Speaking on the judgement, Gov Wada said his victory at the Supreme Court is “freedom received at the highest temple of mother justice.”
The governor in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Strategy, Mr. Jacob Edi, on Friday said he hoped the judgement will put an end to the agitation by his opponents to put spanner in the works of his government.
He reaffirmed his confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man, where, according to him, truth is the essential ingredient for justice.
Relatively, Kogi State Deputy Governor, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi has described the development as victory for the people of the state.
