40 Killed In Fresh Boko Haram Attack
Despite promises of improved security in the wake of recent attacks by
suspected members of Islamist sect Boko Haram, at least 40 persons have been
killed in Jakana, 35 kilometres away from Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
The insurgents were said to have also killed two police officers and burnt
down the only police station standing on the Maiduguri/Damaturu highway in
Jakana, having previously razed others.
The residents of the village who fled the area to Maiduguri told journalists
that the attackers destroyed everything they had and killed many before the
arrival of security operatives.
The number of casualties in the state since Saturday now stands at 166,
after the group during Saturday’s twin attack on Ajilari-Bintu Sugar and
Mainok killed 91 persons and on Sunday in the attack on Mafa killed 35
persons, including three police officers.
