The federal government should urgently investigate
allegations according to which poisonous chemical substance was used to
kill people in Benue State, NAFDAC says.
Director General
of National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC),
Dr. Paul Orhii, maintained that the chemical weapon is contained in
canister shells.
"Chemical weapons
have been used on our people, and for the first time, I saw it
yesterday. It was concealed in canister shells," he said.
He
spoke while donating relief materials worth over N20 million to
internally displaced persons within Makurdi, stressing that the crisis
needs to be checked before it becomes detrimental to the entire country.
It would be recalled that similar concerns were voiced by Benue State Commissioner for Information, Mr Justin Amatse. About 200 victims were found dead with no cuts, gunshot wounds or bruises on their bodies.
Benue State is being ravaged by suspected Fulani herdsmen - with state governor Dr. Gabriel Suswam insisting that the attackers are terrorists in disguise.
