Ghost Workers Gulp N1B in Kogi, APC No Threat To PDP- Former SSG
Category: Kogi News
According to the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG),
Chief Sola Ojo, about N1 billion must have been paid annually as
salaries to ghost workers and unqualified teachers in Kogi state primary
schools.
Ojo, who is the Chairman of the screening committee set
up by the state government to take inventory of authentic primary
school teachers in the state, disclosed that the 28,000 figure was
over-bloated.
He said the
committee was inaugurated sequel to the agitation of primary school
teachers that the state government should implement both minimum wage
and salary relativity for them.
Describing the agitation as legitimate, he however pointed out that by the time the report of the committee is released, the government would save about N1 billion annually which had hitherto been paid as salaries to ghost workers and unqualified teachers.
The former state scribe hinted that the amount could be reinvested by providing infrastructure for primary schools across the state.
He said Governor Idris Wada was committed to flushing out the ghost workers “because he did not interfere with our assignment,” stressing that they are not going back to yesterday.
Chief Ojo who spoke on many sensitive issues, was optimistic that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is no threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
He submitted that, “the leader of APC in the state is the former Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu, who lost election twice after being governor”, and asked rhetorically, “is there anything new?”
He insisted that the PDP administration in the state is committed to improving facilities, reiterating that “governance is about improvement and Governor Idris Wada is doing just that.”
The former SSG cited the establishment of the teaching hospital at the state university Anyigba and reticulation of the Lokoja Greater Water Works as some of the improvements Captain Wada’s administration had brought to bear.
