INEC To Distribute Voters’ Card In Lagos
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday
announced that Lagos State residents will get their permanent voters’
card in August, 2014.
Dr Adekunle Ogunmola, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, who made
the announcement in Lagos, said the exercise would last for three days.
“The distribution of permanent voters’ card will take place in Aug.
22 through Aug. 24″ he said.
“After that the continuous voters
registration will commence immediately on Aug. 27 to Aug. 31″.
Ogunmola explained that the continuous voters registration would
allow eligible registrants who didn’t vote in 2011 the opportunity to do
so.
“Those who have matured into voting age of 18 during the last
registration exercise and those whose names are not in the electronic
register will also be opportune to register” he said.
According to him, the exercise would also avail the commission the opportunity to ascertain authentic voters.
The INEC boss said that the cards of those who double registered would not be printed.
He said their names had already been deleted from the system.
Ogunmola, however, revealed that double registrants would have another opportunity to register.
The INEC boss promised that those who intentionally registered twice
and those who the commission asked to do so would be allowed to
re-register.
