A 37-year-old prophetess, Bose Oluwole, is cooling
off in police custody after she allegedly set her 9-year-old daughter,
Damilola, ablaze in an attempt to deliver her from witchcraft.
Bose,
a prophetess with a Celestial Church of Christ in Epe was arrested by
policemen from Epe police division, Lagos state after a distress call by
residents of the area who claimed to have seen the suspect pouring
kerosene on her daughter and setting her ablaze.
Damilola
was lucky to escape with her life as she was rescued and taken to Epe
General Hospital where she is receiving treatment at the emergency ward
of the hospital for first degree burns.
Upon
interrogation, Bose reportedly confessed to the crime, saying she did
it in obedience to God’s instruction to cleanse her of demonic spirits.
According
to her, she saw in vision that her daughter was possessed and from the
witchcraft world so she prayed about it and that's when she got the
revelation form the Holy Spirit to burn her in order to set her free.
The
prophetess was charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a
two-count charge of felony to wit, and attempt to commit murder.
She however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The
magistrate presiding over the matter, Mrs. C. J. Momodu directed that
the matter be transferred to Family Court 2 because of the age of the
victim.
At the family court, the magistrate in charge
Mrs. O. O. Oshin ordered the accused to be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons,
Lagos and adjourned the case to June 2, for mention.
