SSS Arrests Ogwuche’s Father Over Nyanya Bombings
Category: Boko Haram News
The Department of State Security Services, DSS, has announced the
arrest of the father of alleged co-mastermind of the Nyanya bombing,
Agene Ogwuche, a retired colonel, for breaching the bond he signed for
his son’s bail in 2012.
This is coming a day after Owuche’s son, Abubakar Sadiq Ogwuche, a
deserter who served in the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Army in
Lagos between 2001-2006, was arrested in Sudan through the collaborative
efforts of Interpol, DSS, the Nigeria Police and the Military Attaché
to the Nigerian High Commission in Sudan.
The young British-born Oguwche, who is presently awaiting extradition
back home to face charges, was first arrested on November 12, 2011 at
the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on arrival from the UK
on terrorism related charges but was released on bail to his father on
October 15, 2012, following intense pressure from human rights activists
who alleged human rights violation.
Spokesperson for the DSS, Marylyn Ogar, said during the daily media
briefing by the National Information Centre at the National Orientation
Agency in Abuja, that “the elder Ogwuche was taken in because he
breached the bond, which he signed while taking his son’s bail in 2012”.
Also speaking on the arrest, police spokesperson, Frank Mba, said the
retired military colonel would be made to answer for his inability to
meet the bail bond which he signed pledging to produce his son when
needed for questioning.
Over 200 lives were lost in two separate attacks on Nyanya motor-park
and more than 120 others sustained various degrees of injuries.
