I lost my father when I was barely four years of age, and growing up
without my father around gave me a rare picture of what it means to have
a father.
As a father as well grandfather, interacting with my
children and grandchildren gives me a nostalgic sense of the full
magnitude of that loss. Because no matter how well some family members
try to fill that void and alleviate that loss, the position of a father
is just irreplaceable.
I always try to honor that memory by working
hard to position myself as a role model not only to my children and
grandchildren, but to every child who desires one, and to help them
achieve their potentials and realize their dreams. For I realize that
the role of fatherhood transcends the mere ability to father a child,
but the courage and responsibility to be there when you are needed, and
to offer the unconditional love and sacrifices in order to make the
world a secure and better place for our children.
