Jonathan appoints Suleiman Abba as new IG of Police

President Goodluck Jonathan has announced the assistant IGP, Suleiman
Abba as the new Inspector General of Police, IGP, after two DIGs and
three AIGs were screened for the position.

Abba is to replace the former IGP, Mohammed Abubakar whose tenure expires today (Thursday) after spending 35 years in service.
There
were indications that Abubabar moved to extend his service but was
turned down by the Presidenct for an unknown reason. He was appointed
the 16th indigenous IGP in January 2012 to replace Abubakar Ringim.
Before
his appointment, Abba was the AIG zone 7, include Commissioner of
Police in charge of Rivers State. He has also occupied the Deputy Force
Sec position, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Assistant Comissioner of
Police in charge of State CID, FCT Police Command. Abba was also a former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Maryam Abacha.
Stakeholders recommended the appointment of the Assistant Inspector General of police who is now the new IGP.
He has worked in Abuja for the past two years and is also an alumnus of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.
