APC Legislator Defects to PDP in Kogi

Member representing Bassa Constituency in Kogi House of Assembly, Mr Sunday Shigaba has defected to Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Making the declaration on the floor of the house at plenary on Thursday, Shigaba said the defection was in the bid to attract more dividends of democracy to his people.

He noted that the PDP had lived up to the expectations of the people in the state and was poised to attract more development to the state.

Shigaba said he gave it a thought and felt a return to the party he left for the then ANPP in 2011, would be appropriate for his constituency to reap full dividends of democracy.

“The essence of representation is to deliver dividends of democracy to the people. If you are in a place where such cannot be adequately taken care of, you will have join where things are happening.

“I am returning, not decamping, I was a PDP member right from the foundation only in 2011, I defected to the then ANPP when I felt I was not properly treated.

“I defected to the ANPP, pursued my cause and through the special grace of God, I was elected under the platform of ANPP and today, I feel my people have to be properly fixed, my people have to join where things are happening.

“The PDP is living up to expectations in this state, it has no rival here. I have to belong. This has nothing to do with my personal ambition because my ambition can be achieved anywhere just like I achieved before my statement and declaration today”, he said.

The Majority Leader, Alhaji Yakubu Yunusa and other PDP members who constitute the majority in the house applauded the decision of the legislator to reduce the number of APC members from five to four.

Speaker, Alhaji Momoh-Jimoh Lawal commended Shigaba, assured him of the cooperation of the party and the privileges being accorded old members as he welcome him “back home.”
