Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All
Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday clashed in Ile-Ife, leaving
scores with various degrees of injuries.
In a statement by its Director of Publicity and Research, Mr. Kunle
Oyatomi, the APC alleged that the PDP went on rampage against the
supporters of APC, who were celebrating Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s victory
in last Saturday’s governorship election.
“Apart from physical injuries inflicted on our supporters, the PDP
thugs extended their violence to Gbodo, where they attacked and damaged
properties belonging to the father of the Executive Secretary of Ife
South Local Government, Tajuden Lawal.
“Not done with their violence, they went ahead to vandalise shops in Itakogun.
“Fortunately, we are told the police have intervened and the situation is being normalised.”
Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Osun State command, Mrs.
Folasade Odoro, however denied there was any clash between supporters of
the two parties, saying; “People were only jubilant, not only in
Ile-Ife, but all parts of the state.”
