Quarantined OAU student Ebola negative – Official

The student of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, who was quarantined, has tested negative to the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.
Dan Nwomeh, the Spokesperson to the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, in a tweet said the minister confirmed that the student had tested Ebola negative.
The student was quarantined after he had contact with the Port Harcourt doctor, Ikechukwu Enemuo, who treated a primary contact of the index case, Patrick Sawyer.
Mr. Enemuo later died of the virus.
The minister had on Wednesday said that contact between the student and Mr. Enemuo was made during a naming ceremony in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Nwomeh added that a South African woman, suspected to have the virus also tested negative. He, however, said the woman is being investigated of other diseases.
He reaffirmed that there is no single confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria at present.
Nigeria has successfully managed the outbreak of the disease which has a fatality rate of up to 90 per cent, World Health Organization, WHO says.
In Nigeria, 19 people were confirmed to have had the disease, out of which seven died while 12 others survived; 15 cases were recorded in Lagos and 4 in Port Harcourt.
