Mum Flush a day Old Baby Down Toilet in Anambra

A mother of 2 boys, attributed the harsh economic situation in Nigeria as to why she committed what neighbors called an ‘abomination’.


It came as a big shock for residents in Okpoko of Ogbaru, Anambra State, to hear the news that one of their own, flushed a child she carried for nine months into the toilet.

The Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Uche Eze, confirmed this news to NigerianFM. An eyewitness, Mr Obi told our correspondent that Ngozi’s brother-in-law had raised the alarm when he wanted to use the toilet and saw a floating object. His scream attracted other members of the family who found a placenta and later a lifeless body of a day old baby inside the toilet.

Ngozi, who neighbours saw with protruding stomach for months, denied ever giving birth to a new born baby despite all the overwhelming evidence. She later confessed to a bewildered family members why she decided to end the day old baby’s life. She said times are so hard that she and her husband can not take care of their 2 kids.

The Okpoko area Police Station confirmed her arrest and subsequent detention, pending full police investigation.

When contacted, her husband, Emeka, declined to speak with us.
