Fayose slashes EKSU tuition fees

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has ordered the reduction of tuition fees being paid by students of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, from N50, 000 to N30, 000.

Governor Fayose, who announced the reduction in the fees in Ado Ekiti, while featuring on a live programme in the network of the electronic news media in the state, also said that the students could pay the fees in two installments.

According to Fayose on the programme tagged: Meet your Governor, his administration would also ensure an enabling atmosphere for teaching and learning in all the state-owned institutions of higher learning by putting infrastructural facilities in place in the schools.

On the frosty relationship between him and All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the state’s House of Assembly, Fayose accused the APC lawmakers of not putting Ekiti first in their considerations.

“Adewale Omirin, as the speaker, did not attend my inauguration ceremony. After the event, we met and talked and we agreed to work together. They asked that their monthly running grant of N48 million be paid in full, even when other agencies have had theirs slashed by 60 per cent or stopped totally because of poor finances. We still gave them the full grant,” he said.

On the retirement of some permanent secretaries in the state, Fayose explained that “the performance of some was below expectation.”

According to him, “a situation where we have 36 permanent secretaries to 14 active ministries does not make sense and we are not going to allow any waste. The former governor had 104 special advisers and special assistants which were given official cars at the expense of the state. By the time they left, most of the cars were not paid for and they left with them.”
