Blogging is no longer business as usual as Blogger are now being recognized as professionals to be reckoned with. Lots of people have misunderstood the blogging business and usually refer to bloggers as “copy and paste journalists”

I recall Omojua’s encounter with former president Olusegun Obasanjo where Obasanjo told him, “Blogging is not a profession”.

Well, with this conference in Ikeja organized by GistMate/ AdvertStriker.com, in conjunction with MTN, Smile and Google, bloggers will begin to gain recognition more than ever!

The conference was loaded with knowledgeable speakers in the field of writing, blogging, technology, PR and Marketing.

While encouraging bloggers and writer on their profession, the CMO of MTN, Mr. Bayo Adekanbi said, “Great writers dig, dig and dig till they find gold”.

Like most other speakers at the event, he referred to success of Linda Ikeji and some other bloggers as a major breakthrough in the blogging industry.

Many bloggers are not aware of the fact that writing original contents is one of the key promotions for their blogs/websites. While speaking to the bloggers at the conference, Lanre Aina, Google NG, BDM said, Bloggers who write original contents can submit their content/blog to Google News at no cost at all, but a lot of bloggers are not aware of such opportunities.

Franklin Ozekhome, the Chief Story Officer of “Think Nigeria” gave the key notes a blogger needs before starting a blog, he mentioned the three Ws… WHY, WHO, WHAT. Before starting your blog you must know WHY you want to Blog, WHO you are, and WHAT your objectives are.

He said, “A product’s emotional appeal is as important as its functional abilities”. He added that as a good blogger you must have your own niche and be able to determine the desired relationship between your customers and your products.

Other speakers at the event includes; Ayodele Oyebade, the coordinator of the event and MD Advertstriker.com, Clara Okoro, writer and blogger, Taiwo Kayode-Ogunlade, Corporate Affairs Mgr, Google NG, Alero Ladipo, CMO Smiles Communication, Dr. Bayero Agabi, Infotech, Dr. Jonathan, MD- Marketing, Jumia NG.


Muyiwa Hashiru of MTN, said MTN is in the process of converting 200 websites into mobile Apps, and offered 20 bloggers preference to get their websites converted into Apps. He also used the forum to launch out MTN’s recent application; the #MTNCallerFeel where users can use Caller text to advertise themselves.

Smiles Communication offered ten bloggers partnership to write a story that can attract Smile and get audience conversion. Jumia NG also gave three bloggers opportunity to win great prizes by blogging about Jumia Mobile Week Megathon.

Several participants came from across the country, including Abuja, Enugu, and Edo and mostly participants were picked from Lagos.
