MEMBER, House of Representatives, Mr. James Abiodun Faleke has resumed duties in the House of Representatives, where he represents Ikeja Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
Yesterday, Faleke, who insisted he ought to be declared the governor-elect of Kogi State going by the outcome of the first ballot in the poll, partook in the plenary session of the lower legislative chamber presided over by Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
Meanwhile, in an effort to put an end to all forms of gender-based violence and sexual abuse, Speaker Dogara pledged his commitment and support in ensuring the active and effective implementation of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015 (VAPP Act).
In a related development, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has defended the decision to field Alhaji Yahaya Bello as replacement for late Prince Abubakar Audu in the just-concluded Kogi poll.
In a chat with The Guardian, he urged Rep Faleke, who is opposed to the choice of Bello as the party’s candidate to be magnanimous and see the outcome of the Kogi poll as divine.
Bello emerged victorious in the supplementary garnering 6,885 votes in the supplementary election, bringing the total votes the APC received to 247,752, having polled 240,857 in the November 21 election.
Oyegun said, “It is very good we expected it. And we have won and what is important is that in spite of all the controversies, the party’s new candidate has increased the majority and that is beautiful that is good. It shows that all the controversies were uncalled for and that some leaders just argue for personal interests. The people know better and they have proven it in this case.”
Faleke, who heads the House Committee on Customs and Excise, showed up in the green chamber of the House decked in a white flowing ‘agbada’ and a hand-made red cap, amid cheers and ovation from his colleagues.
