Dino Melaye is a Nigerian politician, a former senator and was a member of the 8th Nigerian National Assembly, representing Kogi West Senatorial district. He is from Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Dino Melaye is a former senator and member of the House of Representatives and
also a member of the People’s Democratic Party. In 2015 he defected to All
Progressives Congress (APC) but returned to PDP in the buildup to 2019
elections after months of political struggle with Kogi State governor.
He was the Chairman Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
And briefly the Senate Committee Chairman on Aviation in Nigeria. He was the
spokesperson of 2023 Presidential candidates of People’s Democratic Party,
Atiku Abubakar
Dino was born in the city of Kano. He attended Abdul Aziz Atta Memorial
College from 1985 till 1992. He later went to Ahmadu Bello University from
1995 until 2000 when he graduated from Geography department. He was a
Student union leader at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in his university
days before leading the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
After that he became the Secretary General of African Youth Council and then
that of the Common Wealth Youth Council. These positions won him the African
youth of the year award among many other citizens of 54 competing
Commonwealth countries in 2005 after which he was appointed by President
Olusegun Obasanjo to chair the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths.
He is currently unmarried but was married to Tokunbo Melaye for 10 years.
She filed for divorce after a domestic violence dispute where she claimed
that he beat her up and pointed a gun to her head. Shortly after, Dino
Melaye moved another woman named Alero Falope into the home that he shared
with Tokunbo. Falope moved out 6 months later. Tokunbo had 3 children for
Dino
