Troops from 121 Task Force Battalion, Pulka, led by Captain Suleiman and Lieutenant Ayuba, were escorting the officials when the terrorists struck, a method they have adopted since the reopening of major access roads, especially those linking the northern fringes of the state.
According to online media, PRNigeria, “about 30 terrorists suspected to be member of the dreaded Boko Haram met their waterloo in the hands of Nigerian troops when they attempted an ambush.
“The chairman of Gwoza Local Government Council, Saeed Salisu Sambo, who was in the convoy disclosed that the terrorists detonated improvised explosive devices, which they followed with sporadic gunshots. But they were immediately repelled by the gallant troops.
“The troops pursued and dealt with the armed attackers with military precision. Saeed, who was full of praise for the troops, said no life was lost on the side of the troops and civilians.
“Some soldiers who were injured during the encounter are presently receiving medical attention at Brigadier Maimalari Barracks Hospital. An emergency worker, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed 30 terrorists were killed in the clash.”
