Buruji Kashamu Reacts, as PDP Expels Him
Senator Buruji Kashamu has fired at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying his expulsion from the party won’t stand.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expelled the Senator,
Buruji Kashamu, from the party including three other members of the party in Ogun
State yesterday.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan,
announced the expulsion at the end of an emergency National Executive
Committee meeting of the party in Abuja.
The three other expelled along with him are Bayo Dayo, Segun Sarki and Sanimu Sodipo.
Mr Dayo was a factional chairman of the PDP in Ogun. He headed the faction of the party loyal to Mr Kashamu.
But Kashamu reacted to his expulsion, saying;
“It is clear from the ill-advised decision that the Prince Uche
Secondus-led National Working Committee is lawless and undemocratic. No
due process was followed as enshrined in the
Constitution of the party. Since the initial 30-day suspension elapsed
on Jan. 9, 2018, they do not have any right to take any disciplinary
action against me.
“This decision cannot stand because Article 57 (6) of the PDP
Constitution which says ‘Any decision taken against a member who has not
been informed of the charges against him or has not been given any
opportunity of defending himself shall be null and void,’” he said.
The lawmaker added that there are two suits challenging his initial suspension.
