One Killed, Many Injured, Children Trapped As Building Collapses In Abuja
One person was reportedly been killed and at least 10 others are trapped in the rubble of a three-storeyed shopping complex under construction, which collapsed at Jabi area in Abuja this afternoon.
The building is located at Jabi junction, close to a popular Rukkayat plaza in the Nigerian capital.
The incident occurred at about 1:20pm while workers were still at the building and workers and children, including food vendors are believed to be trapped in the collapsed building.
According to reports , eight people have been rescued, while one person lost his life. Among those rescued was the site engineer who had his two legs broken.
At the time of this report, rescue operations by officials of the FCT Fire Service and National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) were still ongoing.
It was gathered the building had been abandoned for 15 years, but contractors were recently mobilized to the site.
