NASS Invasion: Politics should be played like a football game and not war – Young Leaders Forum

The Young Leaders Forum, has condemned in totality the assault of the Security Service on the National Assembly.

The invasion on the National Assembly by the Dept of State Security Service is an open invitation to anarchy had it not been nipped in the bud by the Acting President…Prof Yemi Osibanjo.

This should be a warning to other overzealous Security Chiefs to desist from these damaging actions that tends to shame Nigerians at home and in diaspora.

Nigeria is a democratic nation. Democracy should be liberal and not just procedural. We must respect our institutions and the rule of Law.

Politics is not war. Lets us all remember we are all brothers from a Nigerian Womb. It is unfortunate we found ourselves operating a political system that is devoid of defined ideologies. Our political representatives migrate to and fro political parties, more frequent than the oscillation of a pendulum bob, without any consequence. Everyone seems to have lost control of his/her emotions and aspersions are thrown against one another without caution. This mannerism has to stop.

At the Young leaders Forum, we perceive leadership from a world perspective. What is unacceptable in advanced nations should not be acceptable in Nigeria. We cannot hate one another because of our political divide, that is insane. Politics should be like a game of football, where after the final whistle you see both team players exchanging jerseys, hugging and kissing themselves.

Let us put our hands together to save our hard earned democracy

Engr. Austin Igbe
Executive Director
Young Leaders Empowerment Forum
