New IGP Decentralizes SARS, Disbands SIP and STS
The acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu has decentralized the operation of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) initially centralized by his predecessor IGP Ibrahim Idris.
IGP explained that, while plans were being perfected to strengthen the operations and address complaints over the operations of the unit, the unit is now under state commands.
He also disbanded all quasi-investigation and operations out-fits including the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) and Special Tactical Squad (STS) and other such teams.
He also set up a Special Election Investigation Team (SEIT) tasked with the exclusive function of investigating and prosecuting electoral offenders.
