The new bank came into operation after the injection of N786billion by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) on Friday, September 21, 2018 and started banking operations on September 24, 2018.

According to the Governor of CBN, Emefiele the decision to revoke Skye Bank's license followed the inability of the owners of the bank to raise the capital of the distressed bank which had earlier received a N350 billion intervention in July 2016.
