What is True Repentance?
Repentance is when you are sorry for something you have done. In this year, if we must recover everything which we had lost as individuals, ministers, church, business owners, career people, we must understand that one of the major steps that is needed to recover all is true repentance.
Ezra 9: 1-5 "Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians and the Amorites. For they have taken for themselves and their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonished. Then were assembled unto me everyone that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonished until the evening sacrifice. And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the Lord my God"
What is recovery?
Recovery is getting something back that has been taken or lost
How do we lost things?
Majorly we lost tings we possess, be it character or material possession due to sin which sets us back, sin brings stagnation and backwardness.
Everyone sin, the bible in the book of Ecclesiastes 7: 20 says, " For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not" But the truth is that sin leads to stagnation, sin brings us back. But God always gives us grace so that we can always repent and change from our sinful ways.
Ezra 9:8 says, "But now we have been given a brief moment of grace, for the Lord our God has allowed a few of us to survive as a remnant. He has given us security in this holy place. Our God has brightened our eyes and granted us some relief from our slavery" NLT
"Now we are being punished because of our wickedness and our great guilt. But we have actually been punished far less than we deserve, for You, our God, have allowed some of us to survive as a remnant" Ezra 9:13
We know what remnant is- a small part of something that remains after the rest of it has been used, destroyed, or eaten.
Being a remnant is not a good position, imagine someone giving to you the remnant of their food, how would you feel about it?
The children of Israel experienced stagnation each time they sinned against God. During the days of Prophet Nehemiah, he served a king in Susa, he obeyed God's commands. At a time his brother, Hanani and some other men visited him at Susa, they came from Judah to report to him situation of things in Jerusalem. See Nehemiah 1:3. "They said to me, "Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace". (So I said to myself that means sin causes trouble and disgrace.)
When Nehemiah heard this, he was saddened, wept, mourned but fasted and prayed to God. (To truly repent, you must be remorseful, you must be ashamed of your sins, you must cry to God. You must pray for the forgiveness of sin in order to make progress).
Nehemiah 1:5-6 "Nehemiah prayed to God saying, "O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love Him and obey His commands, listen to my prayer! Look down and see me praying night and day for Your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against You. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned. We have sinned terribly by not obeying the commands, decrees, and regulations that you gave us through Your servant Moses"
So you need to cry to God today for forgiveness of all Your sins. Confess them all to him if not making progress becomes difficult. Repent and truly mean it.
See, God had earlier warned the Israelite of the danger of being unfaithful to Him. He told them He would scatter them among nations. But that if they return and obey Him, even if they are exiled, He would bring them back.
So, repentance is important. We all have sinned, but wisdom is knowing how to repent and return to the Lord. I am not talking about Christianity hypocrisy; I am talking about true repentance, seeking God sincerely not because you want to show to people that you know God. Repent of your sins, He is able to forgive any kind of sin.
I oblige you to pray to God for forgiveness. Nehemiah said, "O LORD, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring You. Please grant me success today by making the king favorable to me. Put it in his heart to be kind to me"
I pray that God will give you the grace to know Him. But you first need to seek Him. Seek and you will find Him.
Confession
God I confess that I have sinned against You. Yes, even me and my family by being disobedient to your commands; decrees and regulations.
Prayer
Hear my prayer O LORD; please grant me success today as I go out for my business, work, and school today. Put it into the heart of men to be kind to me and bless me, in Jesus name, amen.
