Kate and Prince William's Police Escort Hits Widow

An elderly woman has been critically injured by a police outbike rider in Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal convoy.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were leaving London to take part in a ceremony at Windsor Castle when Monday’s accident happened.

The victim has been named by neighbors as 83-year-old Irene Mayor.

She is believed to have been knocked down by the police escort in Richmond, West London.

The Palace confirmed the Duke and Duchess have extended their heartfelt sympathies to Mrs Mayor's family.

A statement issued by Buckingham Palace on behalf of the Cambridges tonight said: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were deeply concerned and saddened to hear about the accident on Monday afternoon.

"Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best regards to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery."

The Palace's spokeswoman confirmed the Royals have sent flowers and a handwritten note to Mrs Mayor and plan to visit her in hospital.
