Yusuf Abdullahi Ata

Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, is a Nigerian politician from Kano State, he is also an economist, and a teacher.

Ata was born on 22 June 1962 in Fagge quarters of Kano State, He attended Fagge Primary School 1968 - 1975, then he proceed to Aminu Kano Community Commercial College 1975 - 1980. He graduated from Bayero University, Kano, BUK in 1984, he also has a Degree in Economics and in 2001 obtained certificate of Masters in Development Studies in same University Bayero University, Kano, BUK.

After finishing his Degree in 1984 he served in the Nation's, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Sokoto State from 1984 to 1985.



Ata, started his career as a Classroom teacher after his graduation from 1985 to 1992. He was later transferred to the Kano State Ministry of Education and served as State inspector (Business Education) from 1992 to 1994.

Ata later worked at the Kano State Housing Cooperation as Principal Planning Officer from 1994 to 1997 when he retired to join politics.

He was elected into the Kano State House of Assembly, representing Fagge Constituency in 1999, during the period he served as Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation form 1999 to 2003.

During the 2003 General Election, Ata lose his sit in the House of Assembly election. He later returned in 2011 when he was elected back to the State Assembly. He served as Chairman House Committee on Finance in 2015 and he was nominated as Majority Leader of Kano State House of Assembly same year.

Ata became the Speaker Kano, Kano State House of Assembly when his predecessor Rt. Hon Kabiru Alhassan Rurum resigned due to allegations of corruption leveled on him in 2015.

On Monday 30 July 2018 Ata was Impeached by 27 Members out of the 40 Members of Kano State House of Assembly were they claim that he cannot run the affairs of the House, the motion was raises by Abdulmadari Member Representing Warawa Constituency and seconded by Abdullahi Chiromawa Member Representing Kura/Garum Mallam Constituency. He was replaced by his Deputy Speaker Kabiru Alhassan Rurum who was the predecessor of Ata, and later became his Successor.
