Why I Am Supporting Chief Sango, The Chairman, People’s Democratic Party in Plateau State
A member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Plateau State, Emmanuel Macham has lambasted a faction of the party who are against him for supporting Chief Sango, the State chairman of the party.
Macham who spoke to Ackcity News on Tuesday said he was aware of the consequences of his support for the state chairman, stating however that line of interest had already been drawn in the matter.
Macham said the Chris Hassan/Dakas Shan faction of the party have their own working documents which does not accommodate majority of the party members, particularly the real grassroots members.
He said the Chris Hassan/Dakas Shan faction has a WhatsApp forum, “Plateau PDP Official”, managed by one Akans Taba, the group admin, he describes the members of the group as “captives and slaves” who must do the bid of their master, that they only post opinions that suits the fancy of admin or are faced with instant removal from the group.
Macham revealed that sdome highly placed persons in the society have been reaching out to him to stop supporting the State Chairman of the party, Hon D T Sango.
He said those calling him not to support the state chairman should just wait and allow the PDP constitution to prevail in the matter, saying that Sango was constitutionally elected as the chairman of the party in the state.
He decried the latest propaganda being orchestrated by these people he tagged “enemies of the PDP”, calling the propaganda a “media jihad” where it is being circulated that Sango addressed people of Kanke that he was decamping to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC.
According to him, this is their last strategy when all their other strategies had failed, even threats to his life.
“I am able to see the faction group struggling day and night to bend the party’s constitution; trying hard to outsmart lay down procedures of the party, and playing games to strengthen their capacity to remove an elected chairman.” He said
“I appeal to these persons to embrace peace and dialogue, all the efforts they are putting into trying to remove Sango can be used in strengthening the party”, he added.
He alleged that those calling for the head of the chairman are fraudsters, bad eggs within the party and those who worked against the party in the last general elections, who are APC in the night and PDP at day time.
He claimed Sango was being oppressed because he is from Ganawuri, a minority tribe in plateau state.
Macham called for anyone who has any allegations against Sango to bring it to the public for scrutiny, rather than secret prosecution on social media. He added that he would only stand by the party’s constitution, justice and human right.
Macham commended the national headquarters of the party for constituting the Senator David Mark led committee on the matter but decried the decision to have Dakas Shan, the North Central Vice Chairman in the committee. He instructively said, the committee will not take instructions from Dakas Shan as he is an interested party in the matter and also has questions to answer regarding N1.6 billion petition written by 16 persons.
He claimed a cabal is trying to dictate who becomes what in the future of Plateau state, he said they are trying to wipe out a generation who have paid their dues for the State and the country without respect and courtesy, in a very dubious manner.
Macham alleged that all these allegations and propaganda are geared towards the 2023 general elections in the state.
According to him, “Sylvanus Lot, Prof Dakum Shown, Dr Haruna Dabin, were all unceremoniously removed from office without courtesy. This will not happen to Chief DT Sango or any of his supporters across the state and country at large.”
In conclusion he said, “We remain resolute in defence of our party Constitution, rule of law and fair hearing to all manners of persons in the society.”
