Tragedy occurred at the Odunna family in Ochii village, Ogwa in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on Thursday as a 36-year-old man, Ekene Odunna, was allegedly killed by his younger brother, Matthew.

The incident, it was gathered, threw the community into panic.

A community source told Punch that the victim was beaten by with an iron bar by his brother and died before he could be rushed to hospital.

Ekene, who operated a home movie and music shop at the Alaba International Market, Lagos State, was said to have returned to his home town with his wife and two children for the Christmas and New Year celebration.

He was said to have been killed a few hours after he was admitted into the village council.

The victim had sent his younger brother to Malaysia some years back, but Matthew allegedly misused the opportunity.

The victim was said to also be responsible for settling Matthew, whom he bought a mini bus for to fend for himself.

A source lamented that the existence of bad spots had done untold damage to the village.

He added, “There are some men in the village here whose job is to poison the minds of young men. You can imagine what they discuss in those spots. They keep disparaging anyone with a car and tell their younger brothers how such a person is using their destiny to make money. Unfortunately, these boys believe all these stories.”

Police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the death of the victim, saying he died of a sudden and unnatural cause.
