279 school girls kidnapped in the North-Central Zamfara state have been released.

Gunmen took them from a state-run school on Friday.

An Aljazeera reporter, in the know of most of the development on the kidnapping, and also present when the girls were taken to State government house, said;

"Basically the 279 school girls have been released- the governor said no one was left in captivity, no one was killed.

"But what we saw were girls limping, because they had to trek when they were taken from their beds four to five days ago.

"And they had to walk long distances"

He said, "One girl told me she walked more than 60kms, they stopped at a camp for two days and then moved to another camp for one negotiating process."

He also said the governor announced he would be continuing with negotiation with bandits in dealing with issues like this.
