Police Threatened To Shoot Me- Mother of 14 Year Old Killed During Yoruba Nation Rally in Lagos Laments

Mother of 14-year-old Jumoke Monsurat Oyeleke, who was killed by stray bullets during the Yoruba Nation rally in Lagos on Saturday has told reporters that police are yet to grant her access to the corpse of her daughter.

In an interview with Punch the bereaved mother said she and her brother visited the Police Station where her corpse was believed to have been taken, but that the policemen on duty threatened to shoot shoot them both if they didn’t leave the station immediately.

She said they were also threatened with teargas.

On Saturday, during the Yoruba Nation rally, Jumoke’s body was found sprawled on the ground in a pool of blood, with her stomach ripped apart. This was shortly after policemen had opened fire to disperse protesters agitating for Yoruba nation.

However, the Lagos State Police Command have denied having hand in the death of 14-year olf Jumoke. The command claimed that the blood found around her corpse was dry, and that it was an indication that the dead body was not fresh.

Ifeoluwa Oyeleke, mother of the deceased narrated how it all happened, she said, “I got a call while I was in Ikeja where I had gone to work.

“When I asked to know what it was about, I was told that there was no issue but that my presence was needed at home.

“It was when I got home that I learnt of what had happened. I was told that the bullet shot by the police killed my daughter.”

Ifeoluwa stated that she had yet to see the corpse of her daughter since she got the news of her death yesterday.
