A Good Samaritan has rescued a three-year-old girl found inside a gutter at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo State.
The little girl, who has been christened Esther, reportedly lost consciousness and almost died as she was tied in both hands and legs, put in a sack and dumped in a filthy gutter in the Ayeyemi area of Ondo town.
The Chief Medical Director of the UNIMEDTH, Dr Oluwole Ige, on Friday, said the toddler was brought to the hospital unconscious but was resuscitated by the team of medical workers in the hospital.
He said, “On July 9, 2021, a three-year-old abandoned girl was found, dumped in an erosion pathway at Ayeyemi, Ondo City and was brought to the UNIMED Teaching Hospital accident and emergency ward by a good Samaritan.
“The girl-child was brought unconscious, terribly cold, tied in both legs and arms inside a bag.
“Immediately, the UNIMED Teaching Hospital personnel swung into action to save the life of the dying child despite the industrial strike action of the medical doctors in the state.
“A critical medical care was given to her for days until she regained consciousness up till today of her discharge.”
The CMD also said that the representatives of the Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development were invited by the teaching hospital to take up the continuous social management and care of the girl.
She was later handed over to the Director of Social Service Department in Ondo West Local Government, Mr. Ariyo Idowu, for further care.
