Kanye West Officially Changes Name To ‘Ye’
Category: Entertainment News
Kanye West
has been granted approval from a Los Angeles judge to legally change his name
to “Ye,” according to multiple news sites, finalizing one of the most peculiar
moves made by the billionaire musician in recent years.
L.A. Superior Court Judge Michelle Williams Court granted West’s petition to change his name on Monday, two months after he requested it, a court spokesperson confirmed to Forbes.
West now can go simply as “Ye,” without a middle or last name.
His Instagram and Twitter already reflect his name change, although his handle on both sites still remains “@kanyewest.”
The 44-year-old musician cited personal reasons for filing the name change in August, but has been alluding to the change for years. He released a studio album titled Ye in June 2018, and a few months after the release, he tweeted that he would be “formally known as Kanye West” and said “I am now Ye.”
He has reportedly asked his inner circle to call him “Ye” for years and has referred to himself as “Ye” in songs like “Ye vs. The People,” and on social media prior to announcing the change.
