A doctor, Aniekan Makanjuola, revealed in a special court in Ikeja on Thursday how a minor (name withheld) was allegedly tainted by Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, aka “Baba Ijesha”.

Ms Makanjuola made the revelation as it was presented as evidence by state attorney Yusuf Sule during the trial of the actor struggling with taint allegations.

“Our findings were that there was a blunt penetration of the vagina which was consistent with the client’s story,” she said.
Ms Makanjuola, a forensic pathologist by training, is responsible for clinical services at the Women at Risk International Foundation, WARIF. She was testifying as the fourth prosecution witness.

She said: “We took her to the consulting room and she told the story of the events of seven years ago. She did not mention these incidents to her mother, but it started to affect her mood and her academic performance.

“She revealed what had happened to her mother’s friend on April 16 who in turn informed her mother. We decided to do a review.

“There were normal external genitalia, we observed a healed laceration on the labia minora at the 3’0Clock position; we also observed a notch at the 6’0 clock position.

“Based on these results, Monsignor, the client was sent to the lab for further testing, it was for HIV 1 and 2, hepatitis A, B, syphilis and pregnancy and they all turned out to be negative.

“She was sent for a psychological assessment and a report was drawn up, authenticated and sent to SCID.”

Following the revelations, the prosecution presented the dismissal letter and the medical report as evidence in court. They were admitted into evidence and marked as Exhibits J and J1.

During cross-examination by defense attorney Dada Awosika (SAN), Makanjuola revealed that WARIF is a referral center for sexual assault.

She said she performed the medical examination based on the client’s history.

“The healed lacerations suggest that the lacerations found in the genitals were not new, my lord. “

Baba Ijesha faces a charge of six counts bordering on indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.

The offenses violate Articles 135, 259, 262, 263 and 262 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
