Death toll has risen above 70 as Tornadoes sweep through six US states, with Kentucky the most hit.

The governor of the US state of Kentucky Andy Beshear, said more than 70 people were killed by tornadoes on Friday night.

At least 30 tornadoes were reported across six states: Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee.

At least three people are reported dead in Tennessee, officials said. An official in Missouri has also reported at least one death, according to CNN.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said damage is worse than previously thought in western Kentucky after deadly tornadoes ripped through the state.

He said the figure could rise to more than 100 in what he called the worst tornadoes in the state’s history.

The families of workers at a Mayfield, Kentucky, candle factory are searching for loved ones who they haven’t been able to reach hours after the storm.

US President Joe Biden expressed his “condolences for the lives lost” and pledging federal assistance after storms after speaking with Beshear.
