Declare Hijrah Holiday or Cancel Christian Holidays - MURIC To FG

Category: Nigeria News

President Buhari has been told to declare Hijrah holiday or cancel holiday for Christians.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) said the 1st January holiday is a Christian colonial creation designed to dignify and rubber-cushion the pomp and pageantry of Christmas.

The group however demanded the declaration of the first day of the Islamic calendar (1st Muharram) as a Hijrah holiday to justify the 1st January Gregorian holiday that is declared annually by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

MURIC argued that only the recognition of the first day of the Islamic new year can balance the equilibrium and ensure parity, justice, and fair play.

The Muslim rights group said the Federal Government should review “this Christian colonial heritage” for the sake of peace.

The group added that “if the government thinks this demand is unreasonable, FG should stop declaring 1st January as a holiday. That is when we will know who has been benefiting from it and who has been losing and hurting.”

MURIC’s demand was made on Friday, 7th January 2022 by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

  4. This holiday observed throughout the world, will Buhari, in the wisdom of this Professor, going to cancel it internationally or what ? The way some people are taking this religion things baffle me, or is it for lack of something to say as an attempt to remain relevant ?

  5. I do not completely agree with MURIC but there is element of truth in the assertion. The solution is simple. Nigeria has many fault lines and the worst and impossible to bridge is the Sharia versus secular Nigeria fault line. The gap is 1400 years old. Solution will be to divide Nigeria into 2 separate countries so that each can practice what they want.

The secular calender that is used worldwide is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the Christian Calender which is called Ecclesiastical or Liturgical calender. Secondly can someone please educate this semiliterate man that CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM are NOT the only religions in Nigeria.
