A 24-year-old Chukwuka Igbonekwu has reportedly died after drinking sniper at
the weekend at Ambrose Okereke Street, behind Steve Keshi Stadium in Asaba,
Delta State.
The Guardian learnt Igbonekwu, who was planning his traditional marriage and wedding for next month, April 19, and Wednesday, 20, 2022, committed suicide on the allegation that his girlfriend accused him of planning to marry another lady.
It was also learnt that the deceased and his fiancée, Blessing, hailed from Umuezeogwu village in Uzo-Uwani, Enugu State.
“There was a fight between late Igbonekwu and his girlfriend on Thursday, March 10, 2022, after much quarreling and fighting, we decided to enter their room to enquire what was the problem.
“The lady, who has been living together with him for over the years until his death, said that the fight was as a result of the late Chukwuka wanting to leave her for another lady.”
The source said the death was not reported to the police; the relatives simply took the body and left for their village for burial.
Before his death, it was learnt the deceased had said “he and the girlfriend are related and are AS genotype and therefore cannot marry.”
The source added: “After their fight, they reconciled again and later we saw both of them coming out from a shopping mall and going home on Friday.
“Towards evening, the girlfriend raised the alarm, calling people that the late Chukwuka drank sniper.”
