Jigawa Assembly Approves One Month Jail Term For Open Defecation

Jigawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill to prevent open defecation
across the state.
The bill was passed on Tuesday during the House plenary presided by the Speaker, Hon Idris Garba Jahun.
He said the bill is aimed at promoting sanitation and public hygiene across the state.
According to him, when the bill was signed into law, any person caught urinating or defecating openly not in house, public toilet and other designated places, will face the wrath of the law.
He explained that under the law, the person can be sentenced to one month imprisonment, committed to community service or minimum of five thousand naira fine.
