Shame on Ex-Super Eagles Players That Endorsed Tinubu - Omoyele Sowore

Category: Nigeria News

Omoyele Sowore has berated former Super Eagles players for paying a visit to a former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sowore, in a post on his verified social media accounts, described the senior players’ visit to Tinubu, who is pursuing the APC’s presidential ticket, as one “driven by hunger.”

On Saturday, the former Super Eagles players met with Tinubu at his home, ahead of the novelty football match scheduled for Sunday at Onikan Stadium in Lagos State.

Kanu Nwankwo, Jay-Jay Okocha, Taribo West, and Victor Ikpeba were among the ex-internationals who visited Tinubu’s home.

The ex-Super Eagles players will take part in a novelty match to mark Tinubu’s 70th birthday.

Sowore said, “Hunger is a bastard! JJ Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Victor Ikpeba, Taribo West, and other ex-Super Eagles players paid Tinubu a visit today to endorse him.

“I used to think Victor Ikpeba was a smart person! Shame on these ex-soccer Super Eagles players! Imagine sending them to play for Nigeria as a team in the World Cup after they’ve expired?”

  4. My immediate reaction, would ordinarily be the same as SOWORE, after a careful examination of the possible circumstances that could have informed their action, and because every action or reaction should be investigated and thoroughly challenged on its individual merit, I have refrained from denouncing the players for now. .... Note that politicians are very smart and cunning too. .....They believe that in politics everything is fair, while I'm not the spokesman of the ex -super Eagles players, yet given my knowledge of politicians and their antics knowing that a lot of citizens easily connect, relate, admire "Football" especially when the aforementioned players are involved I would not pass instant judgement on them....It is very possible those players didn't know that the courtesy visit was for the purpose of endorsement. ....Non of them is a poor guy, besides they have been touring across the nation and even beyond, on invitation to play Novelty matches in honour of either their colleagues or public figures etc. The other day it was at the instance of the Kogi State gov, Yaya Bello, they have done it in Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, they don't discriminate. Therefore, I want you to imagine if these guys had turned down the request of visiting TINUBU, the Media would caption it differently..... Some might say they hate Tinubu, they are sponsored by the opposition to humiliate Tinubu, some would even go as far as saying "They refused because Tinubu is not from their Region, or perhaps lie that the players got less money than what they charged others etc...." So, until we get to the root of the matter or get their individual or joint reactions I wouldn't agree with OMOYELE SOWORE, though he makes a lot of sense most of the time.
