16 Die Inside River While Trying To Escape Bandits Attack On Their Communities


No fewer than 16 villagers have been drowned in River Kaduna, Niger State, while trying to escape attacks in their communities in Munya Local Government Area of the State.

Daily Post gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday, when gunmen numbering about hundred invaded the communities of the victims.

According to reports, the gunmen sacked most of the villagers as they killed scores. This made many of the residents to flee their villages through River Kaduna.

It was gathered that the villagers loaded themselves in about three boats heading towards Zumba town, in Shiroro Local Government Area when one of the boats, unfortunately, capsized leading to their deaths.

The Director-General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Ahmed Inga, confirmed the incident to Vanguard, saying a search and rescue operation had begun.

He said, “For now, we don’t know the number of casualties because we have not been able to rescue anybody, but I can tell you that over 30 people, including women and children, were involved.”
