DISCOs Report Fifth National Grid Collapse In Just Two Months

Nigeria’s power grid collapsed again on Friday, making it the fifth time it collapsed in two months and the third in less than 30 days.

Power distribution companies, known as DISCOs such as AEDC, EEDC and Kaduna electric confirmed the collapse.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in response to complaints by its consumers of blackout in the Federal capital revealed: 
 
 
“Please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas.

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN.

We regret all inconvenience caused”, it tweeted.

 
 
 
Eko Electricity Distribution Company said the grid collapse affected its entire network.

“Good evening everyone. We regret to inform you that the current outage affecting our entire network is due to system collapse,” EKEDC stated.

“Sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused. Please, bear with us.” 
 
 
It will be an extended outage for customers of Eko Electricity Distribution Company as it informed them on April 7 of a planned outage for six hours on 9 April.

“The outage has been scheduled by our TCN partners for Saturday, April 9, 2022 between 9am and 3pm.

“This is to enable the TCN crew repair a wounded conductor between Tower #9 & #10 on the Ajah/Alagbon 330kV Line.

 
 
 
 
“Affected areas include: Ajah, Lekki, V.I. and environs.

“Please note this outage is to ensure the safety of the Lines Maintenance Crew as they conduct repairs. Thank you for your understanding”.

The Kaduna Electric similarly issued a notice, signed by its head of corporate communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, announcing the grid collapse at 18.29 pm. 
 
 
“Dear Esteemed Customers,

“The Management of Kaduna Electric regrets to inform you that the current outage being experienced in our franchise states is due to a collapse of the national grid.

“The collapse occurred at about 18:29 pm this evening.

“Normal power supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is restored.

“We sincerely apologize for all inconveniences.

 
 
Last month, Nigeria’s power grid collapsed thrice.
